Failing To Report Or Stop At An Accident
The driver of a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or public place must stop or report an accident if it causes injury to another person or animal, or damage to another’s property. The driver must stop and give his name and address to any person having reasonable grounds to require it.
The offence is committed if the driver does not give his details to another person and does not report the matter to the police as soon as is reasonably practicable or in any event within 24 hours.
There is no requirement for the driver to report the matter to the police if details have been exchanged at the scene.
