Insurance Fraud

Insurance Fraud

Insurance fraud is any act committed with the intent to fraudulently obtain payment from the insurer.

Examples include the following:

  • Deliberately causing an event in which a claim is made on the insurance policy
  • If the true facts had been known to the insurer the policy would not be paid out
  • Falsifying facts to obtain payments
  • Exaggerating existing claims

Insurance companies now thoroughly investigate cases of fraud where there may be extraordinary circumstances such as fire, flood, criminal damage or theft.
